San Francisco Bay Area & Central Coast

Bartenders for Hire

bartendersNow™ is a professional bartending marketplace that connects event hosts with independent mobile bartenders across the San Francisco Bay Area and California Central Coast — with ingredient-level Stock List planning, a Smart Staffing Calculator that recommends the bar team size, and transparent 12% + 12% fees.

You are hiring a person, not a package. Every profile shows their rates, their ratings from completed events, how far they are from your venue, and an estimate built for your event.

Whether it is a wedding, a company offsite, or fifty people in a backyard, the hard part is rarely pouring the drinks. It is knowing how much to buy, how many people you need behind the bar, and whether the person you booked will actually show up prepared. That is the part we built for.

How it works

Four steps, most of them ours.

  1. Describe your event

Date, time, location, guest count, and what you want to serve. About two minutes.

  2. Get your plan

The Stock List generates an ingredient-level shopping list and the Smart Staffing Calculator recommends how many bartenders the event needs.

  3. Choose your bartender

Compare profiles and availability, filter for RBS certification if your venue requires it, and send a booking request.

  4. Show up to your event

Your card is charged at the 48-hour lock, not at request. Your bartender arrives for the setup window you booked.

FAQ

Hiring a bartender, answered.

How much does it cost to hire a bartender for a private event?

Bartenders on bartendersNow™ set their own hourly rates, so the labour cost varies by experience, event type, and location. What is fixed is our fee structure: a 12% platform fee for hosts and a 12% fee on bartender earnings, shown before you book. There are no setup fees, no membership, and no hidden charges. See our pricing page for the full breakdown.

How many bartenders do I need for my guest count?

There is no single guest-per-bartender ratio — the drink menu moves the answer as much as the headcount does. As planning guidance for 3–4 hours of service: up to 50 guests, 1 bartender; 51–75 guests, 1–2; 76–100 guests, 2; 101–150 guests, 2–3 for beer, wine, and ready-to-drink service, or 2–4 when the menu is cocktail-led. The Smart Staffing Calculator recommends a bartender count from your guest count, service hours, beverage menu, and event type. Above 75 guests it recommends at least two.

Are the bartenders on bartendersNow™ RBS-certified?

You can filter for Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification when you book. California requires RBS certification for anyone serving alcohol at a licensed premises, so if your venue holds an ABC license you should filter for it. Every bartender must pass Government-ID identity verification through Stripe Identity to be paid through bartendersNow™. We do not conduct background checks.

How far in advance should I book a bartender?

Two to four weeks is comfortable for most events, and longer for peak wedding and holiday dates when availability tightens. Shorter timelines are often possible — you send a request and the bartender accepts or declines, so you know quickly where you stand.

Do I buy the alcohol, or does the bartender bring it?

Hosts purchase the alcohol. That keeps you in control of what is served and avoids the licensing complications that come with a vendor reselling alcohol. The Stock List tells you exactly what to buy — ingredient-level quantities sized to your guest count, event length, and menu — so you are not guessing at bottles, mixers, ice, or garnish.

What happens if I need to cancel my event?

Refunds follow documented tiers based on how far ahead you cancel: 14 or more days before the event is a 100% refund, 7 to 14 days is 50%, and within 7 days is no refund. If a bartender cancels on you, you receive a full refund. Captain Service coordination fees follow their own terms. Our cancellation policy has the complete detail.

Which Bay Area cities can I hire bartenders in?

We publish city guides across the San Francisco Bay Area and California Central Coast, including San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, and the Peninsula, plus Napa and Sonoma wine country, the Tri-Valley, Santa Cruz County, and the Monterey Peninsula. Every city has its own page with local venue detail.

What is the difference between a mobile bartender and a catering service?

A caterer typically bundles food, staff, and beverage into one package and marks up the alcohol. A mobile bartender is hired for bar service specifically: they bring the professional skill and tools, you buy the alcohol, and you pay for the service rather than a markup on the product. It fits when you have the food handled and want the bar run by someone who does it for a living.
