California's Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) rules apply to alcohol servers at ABC-licensed premises, and certification is valid for three years. There is no single guest-per-bartender ratio — the drink menu moves the answer as much as the headcount does. As planning guidance for 3–4 hours of service: up to 50 guests, 1 bartender; 51–75 guests, 1–2; 76–100 guests, 2; 101–150 guests, 2–3 for beer, wine, and ready-to-drink service, or 2–4 when the menu is cocktail- or mocktail-led; 151–200 guests, 2–5 and 2–6; 201–300 guests, 3–7 and 3–9.
