Introduction
Captain Service makes one bartender your single point of contact for bar service. They coordinate with any other bartenders you book, and you get a direct one-on-one message thread with them in the app. This guide covers what the role includes, what it costs, and when it is worth booking.
Coordination takes work, so it is paid work. The bartender sets their own Captain rate, you see it before you book, and Captain Service is off by default.

How the thread opens Booking Captain Service is what opens a message thread between you and your bartender. Without it there is no in-app thread with your bartender at all. Your event details still reach them when you book, but there is no channel for you to message them. The thread opens once your payment is secured.

Your Captain is an independent bartender, not a bartendersNow™ employee or supervisor. bartendersNow™ does not oversee, monitor, or guarantee the service any bartender provides, and does not set or enforce service standards. What your Captain covers is between you and them, so confirm it when you book.
What Captain Service Costs
The Captain Fee
What you pay, and when it is refunded The bartender sets their own Captain rate, either a percentage or a flat fee. You see the exact rate on their profile and at checkout, where it appears as Captain Service Premium and is off by default. On their profile the rate carries this note:
Charged on your event's total bartender costs across every bartender on the event, not just this one. Adding a bartender later increases this fee.
If you cancel, the Captain fee is refunded only on a cancellation 14 or more days before the event. If your bartender cancels, you are refunded in full, whenever that happens. The rest of your booking follows the cancellation policy in our Terms.
The Platform Service Fee
What the fee supports Our 12% host and 12% bartender fee structure supports:
- Identity verification, which every bartender must complete before they can appear in host search or accept a booking
- The messaging, booking and payment infrastructure the platform runs on
- Ongoing development of the platform
It confirms an identity document. It is not a background check, and any certifications, licences, or insurance shown on a profile are self-reported by the bartender.
